Project:: 3,000 S.F. single family residence on a wooded 3 acre site. This new home features an open floor plan with a kitchen and dining room connected to a vaulted great room that includes the living room and piano niche. There is an accommodating master suite and a detached guest suite containing a living space, two bedrooms, a bathroom, and patio. The lower level includes a home gym and a large grandchildren’s activity room.
Goal:: Create highly energy efficient, LEED certified, home that fits into the natural surroundings providing an indoor/outdoor environment.
Solution:: The home is organized along an East-West access to provide the best opportunities for passive heating and cooling. The wooded site is ideal for the use of a large amount of operable windows and sliding doors to further enhance the connection with nature inside and out. Achieving LEED certification meant designing an efficient home using sustainable and regional exterior materials and providing an efficient building envelope with insulated concrete foundation walls, spray foam insulation, and triple glazed windows. Achieving lower utility costs by incorporating Green technology such as a geo-thermal system, radiant floors, photo-voltaic panels, a rain water garden and many more make this home as environmentally friendly as possible and cost effective for the owner.
